Urine Test
A urine test is used for numerous different reasons and people are often to subject to this in order to assess their health. The urine test will be used in order to check the different components of the urine; this is a waste product that is produced by the kidneys. A doctor will usually ask a person to do a urine test in order to establish certain health matters; for example it is often used in order to assess whether somebody has an infection or certain virus. Urine is something that everyone produces and it is usually disposed of through a toilet. The kidneys are the main catalyst in relation to urine, they are used to extract waste material, minerals, fluids and other substances from the blood. There are hundreds of different body waste products within urine.
There are many different urine tests available and each one will usually look for something different. It is not the actual test that is different but it is how the urine is analysed which is different. A urine test will sometimes be referred to in the correct medical term, urinalysis. One of the main things that will be looked at through the urine test is the colour. The colour is looked at for many different reasons; one of the main reasons is that it can indicate illness. Numerous different things affect the colour of urine, including fluid balance, diet, medicines and diseases.
Clarity is also considered within a urine test, this will look at numerous different aspects including bacteria, blood, sperm, crystals and mucus. The odor of urine is also checked during a urine test, a strange smell can usually indicate that there is something wrong with the person. The pH is also something that is considered during the urine test, for example if the urine is too high in pH it may indicate kidney stones are forming.
There are numerous other different things that are looked at during a urine test. These include protein, glucose, nitrites, leukocyte esterase, ketones, microscopic analysis, casts, crystals, bacteria and squamous cells. Whilst doctors will sometimes prescribe a urine test for medical reasons, a test may sometimes be given in order to establish whether illegal substances have been taken. Many sports people are subject to random urine tests. When a urine test is carried out it is also common for a blood test to be completed at the same time.
